I would love for you to look at how non-profits (associations) might look at freemium. There are several posts on my blog about it, as well as one here that linked to one of your posts.
I think you are completely right about the non profit aspect. My motivation for working with freemium is the positive impact of the free product.
At the moment I am writing up the “freemium in different industries” page. Here I have included a section on freemium in non profits.
